“Liability in Tests” – Twitter thrashes Shreyas Iyer as he bags yet another failure in Test cricket

Fans on Twitter reacted after India batter Shreyas Iyer bagged a failure in the second innings of the ongoing first Test against England. The match between the teams is taking place at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. 

England are asserting their authority over the Indian team and are looking for favorites to win the game. After India lost Axar Patel after the tea, it was expected that Shreyas Iyer would take responsibility and bail the team out of trouble, especially with the kind of ability he possesses against spin. 

However, that wasn’t the case as Shreyas Iyer bagged another failure and put his team under pressure. The batter started pretty well and gave a sense of confidence to the Indian fans. He defended the ball well but didn’t take the responsibility and batted for long. 

Shreyas Iyer perished to Jack Leach in the 41st over. The spinner bowled a flighted delivery out off to which the batter tried to push. He opened the face of the bat and the ball caught the outside edge and was caught by Joe Root, who took an easy catch in the slips. 

Shreyas Iyer scored 13 runs off 31 balls and with his wicket India was left tottering at 119/7. With the blow, England became favorites to win and would be hoping to pick the remaining three wickets as early as possible and take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. 

Shreyas Iyer has been under scanner in Tests because of his poor form. He bagged failures in South Africa and even didn’t make use of the opportunity in the first innings of the ongoing game. He failed to convert the starts in both the innings and it remains to be seen what will be his future in the series.

The Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai hosted the 14th match of the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) between the Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians (MI) and Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Monday, April 1.
