Watch: Mushfiqur Rahim Tries To Kick The Ball To Prevent His Wicket, Ends Up Getting Bowled

Bangladesh and New Zealand are currently locking horns in the third ODI of the series at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. The hosts after opting to bat first are in big trouble as they have lost quick wickets at the top. 

New Zeland bowlers have kept things tight in the series decider. Bangladesh didn’t get going at all as they lost three wickets for just 35 runs. It was expected that senior pro-Mushfiqur Rahim would step up and bail his team out of trouble. He did to some extent but was extremely unlucky. 

Mushfiqur Rahim and Najmul Hossain Shanto added a vital 53-run partnership before the senior batter got out in a bizarre way. While the scorecard would read that he was bowled by Lockie Ferguson, it was exactly the opposite of that as he got himself out in the most unusual way. 

It was during the first ball of the 16th over when Lockie Ferguson bowled a short-of-a-length delivery on off-stump. Mushfiqur Rahim rose with the bounce to try and defend and ended up playing it with very soft hands. The ball was heading towards the stumps and in the process of protecting his wicket, he tried to kick it away, but he ended up getting bowled and he also kicked the stumps.

Mushfiqur Rahim scored 18 runs off 25 balls with the help of two sixes. He looked in good touch but unfortunately got out. After his wicket, Bangladesh were reeling at 88/4. However, after that, they lost two more wickets and were left tottering at 156/6. 

Bangladesh are yet to name their squad for the ICC World Cup 2023. The team is likely to be announced after the 3rd ODI against New Zealand. There were reports that suggested that Shakib Al Hasan was unhappy as senior opener Tamim Iqbal said he wouldn’t be fit for the tournament and would play only 5 games.
