Fans on X reacted after Afghanistan pacer Naveen-ul-Haq announced his retirement from the ODIs. The fast bowler will call time on his 50-over career after the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023, set to be played from the 5th October to the 19th November in India. 

Naveen-ul-Haq announced his decision to retire from the ODIs through the Instagram page. The fast bowler said that although he will retire from the 50-over format, he will continue playing for the Afghanistan team in the T20I format. 

Naveen-ul-Haq admitted that it was tough for him to make the decision. But he took the call to prolong his career. He also thanked all his fans who supported him throughout his career. What caught the attention of many was even at the young age of 24, he quit one format. 

“It has been an absolute honour to represent my country would like to announce my retirement from ODI format at end of this World Cup and will continue to wear this blue jersey in t20 cricket for my country it hasn’t been an easy decision to make but to prolong my playing career had to take this tough decision would like to thank @afghanistancricketboard And all my fans for their support and unwavering love.”

Naveen-ul-Haq has played just 7 ODIs for Afghanistan and in that he has picked up 14 wickets at an average of 25.42. He last played a 50-over game for the national team in January 2021, against Ireland in Abu Dhabi. The pacer would be hoping to finish his career on high as he would be looking to bring his best in the ICC World Cup 2023.
