Australia batting legend Ricky Ponting feels that Ollie Robinson has not looked dangerous in the Ashes 2023 series. The former Australia skipper also mentioned that Ollie Robinson has managed to get tailenders out in most of the game and has showcased an average bowling show.

Right-arm pacer Robinson has grabbed 8 wickets in 2 games in England vs Australia Test series so far. He accounts for 8 wickets in 3 innings at an average of 24.75. Interestingly, he is the leading wicket-taker for England and follows Nathan Lyon (9) in the overall list.

I Don’t Think Ollie Robinson Has Looked Dangerous At All: Ricky Ponting

While speaking on ICC Review show, former Australia World Cup-winning skipper Ricky Ponting spoke about Ollie Robinson’s performances in Ashes 2023. The former right-handed batter said the English seamer has not looked dangerous in the series at all.

“I don’t think he’s looked dangerous in the series at all. I mean, if you look at the wickets, he’s got the tailenders out in each game. Yes he got Marnus (Labuschagne) in this innings here. But then he got Lyon and then he got Hazlewood. So if he didn’t get the 10 and 11 out, then he finishes his innings with one wicket at over four runs an over,” Ricky Ponting said.

However, Ponting also believes that Ollie Robinson is a skillful bowler. He also pointed out that the 29-year-old became a popular figure in Ashes 2023 due to his controversy with Usman Khawaja.

“He’s a very skilful bowler, no doubt about that, and no one would’ve said a word about Ollie Robinson if he hadn’t have sort of instigated this whole tit-for-tat that’s been happening over the last couple of weeks. And to be honest, I think the whole thing’s been blown completely out of proportion”.

“It’s something that’s everyone’s enjoyed talking about, and some of the ex-players have enjoyed hopping in and having a bit of a crack, but at the end of the day he’s a skilled bowler and, as you say, his numbers so far in the series are actually okay,” concluded Ponting, who led Australia to ODI World Cup victories in 2003 and 2007.

Meanwhile, in the ongoing Lord’s Test, England reached 278-4 in 1st innings till the end of day 2. For England, openers Zak Crawley (48) and Ben Duckett (98) shattered superb half-centuries. Ollie Pope hit 42 while Harry Brook scored unbeaten 45. The other man at the crease is captain Ben Stokes at 17 not-out.

Earlier, Australia posted a mammoth 416-10 on the board before losing all wickets. For England, Steve Smith (110) scored a stupendous century while David Warner (66) and Travis Head (77) hit fifties. England trails by 138 runs.
