Rashid Khan, on Saturday (April 29), created history as he became the first player from Afghanistan to play 100 games in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The star leg-spinner achieved the incredible feat during the game between Kolkata Knight Riders and Gujarat Titans at the iconic Eden Gardens.

The Gujarat Titans spin spearhead made his debut in the IPL in 2017. He began his journey with Sunrisers Hyderabad and hit the ground running in the world’s most competitive T20 league. In 2022, Rashid Khan joined Gujarat Titans and helped the outfit win the IPL in their maiden season.

Rashid Khan has been one of the best spinners in the IPL since making his debut 6 years ago. In 99 games before the game against Kolkata Knight Riders on Saturday, he picked 126 wickets at an average of 20.31 and a stunning economy rate of 6.50. Rashid has also played some crucial knocks with the bat, scoring 326 runs so far with 40 being his highest score.

He enjoyed his most prolific IPL season in 2018 when he picked up an impressive 18 wickets in 17 matches for the Hyderabad-based outfit. Thanks to his performance, Sunrisers Hyderabad made it to the final where they lost against Chennai Super Kings.

Rashid Khan flops in his 100th game

While Saturday was a special day for Rashid Khan as he played his 100th IPL match, he failed to make an impact against Kolkata Knight Riders. The Titans star finished the innings with his second most expensive spell in IPL and T20s. In 4 overs, he conceded 54 runs and could not pick a single wicket.

His worst spell in the IPL in terms of conceding runs came in 2018 when he conceded 55 runs for 1 wicket against Punjab Kings. This is only the second time that Rashid conceded more than 50 runs in an innings in the IPL.
